Advantages of ultrasonic welding over laser welding

Release:2022-04-07

Ultrasonic welding and laser welding are two commonly used welding methods in industry, so what are the advantages of ultrasonic welding compared with laser welding?

        Advantages:

Ultrasonic welding is a physical connection between the welded metals at room temperature by using the high-density energy generated by ultrasonic high-frequency mechanical vibration to produce plastic deformation on the surface of the workpiece and destroy the surface layer under pressure. Although ultrasonic welding will destroy about 3% of the film, because it is continuous non-melting welding, the heat conduction efficiency is relatively good. At the same time, ultrasonic welding has certain advantages in terms of material cost. Ultrasonic welding is suitable for thin products. The copper plate of mainstream flat products in the world is generally between 0.12mm and 0.2-0.3mm. In order to consider the material cost, some enterprises now choose aluminum plate, and ultrasonic welding can only choose 0.2mm to 0.3mm. However, laser welding is suitable for thick materials. For example, the thickness of aluminum plate is generally 0.4mm, resulting in higher material cost.

        Efficiency advantage:

The advantages of ultrasonic metal welding are that the welding material is not melted, the metal characteristics are not fragile, the welding time is short, the fusion strength is high, and it is close to cold processing. However, it will damage the heat-absorbing layer by about 3%, and the welded metal can't be too thick (generally ≤5mm, which is an advantage for flat solar heat-absorbing plate welding). Moreover, because it is continuous non-melting welding, the heat conduction efficiency is relatively good. Some people have done experiments. Under the same working conditions, the heat conduction efficiency of ultrasonic welding products is about 3% higher than that of laser welding.

        Effect advantage:

When the strength of laser welding spot is poor, the hot and cold alternate frequently, or external force is applied, the spot is easy to break. Ultrasonic metal welding is to overlap two welded objects by vertical pressure, and combine them into solid connection by ultrasonic vibration pressure. The bonding time is short and the bonding part does not produce casting structure defects, so the welding position is uniform and the stability is strong. Moreover, ultrasonic metal welding still has no fracture phenomenon after 90-degree vertical bending test. Therefore, ultrasonic metal welding is better than laser welding.

        Advantages in application:

Ultrasonic spot welder is used for similar welding of metals, and can weld thin materials of non-ferrous metals such as copper, silver, aluminum and nickel in single and multi-point short strips. It can be widely used for welding tabs of fuse-link lithium batteries and other shapes.

The ultrasonic spot welding machine for metal adopts electronic program control, with high power, high efficiency, automatic control, easy operation, built-in electronic protection circuit, safe use and stable and reliable work.
